Saucony Ride 13 Review

September 10, 2022

Finding the right running shoes can be a challenge, especially when there are so many of them out there. It can be overwhelming to know where to start.

You have to take into consideration so many things, from the durability of the shoes, all the way to the comfortability and fit. When you’re buying online, it can be even more difficult, because a lot of working out what shoe you need is guesswork.

If you have found your way onto this article, then you are probably wondering about how the Saucony Ride 13’s do as a pair of running shoes.

We’ll be going over everything you need to know about these shoes, and by the time you finish reading this review, you’ll know if these running shoes are the right fit for you!

So let’s get started.

An Introduction To The Saucony Ride 13

The Saucony Ride 13 is actually the successor running shoe to the Ride ISO 2, which might be a bit confusing at first, but we’ll go into the similarities and differences between the two shoes in a little while.

The laces on these running shoes are described as “soft and stretchy”, and can be loosened or tightened to help you get the required fit that you need.

These running shoes are usually described as “neutral running” shoes. If you are looking for a pair of running shoes that work well for both long and short runs, then the Saucony Ride 13 is a perfect choice for you.

One of the reasons the Saucony Ride 13s are so popular is because they have upgraded their midsole technology, which makes them more comfortable and adaptable to your running and exercise habits.

Saucony is actually one of the oldest brands of running shoes in America, and they are still around because of how reliable their shoes are. They make extremely comfortable shoes that are perfect for running, and the Saucony Ride 13s are no exception.

Saucony Ride 13 Vs. ISO 2

As previously mentioned, the Saucony Ride 13 is the successor to an earlier model of shoes known as the Saucony ISO 2.

The ISO 2 was considered to be decent pair of running shoes, but the Ride 13’s really are an upgrade on the previous model.

The Ride 13’s are far more responsive and softer than the ISO 2’s. The Ride 13 also prides itself on being a “near custom fit”, whereas the ISO 2’s weren’t as advanced with their custom fit.

The Ride 13s are also a lot lighter than the ISO 2s, so it makes running a whole lot easier for you. They keep your feet more protected and comfortable during runs.

There are a couple of downsides to the Ride 13s in comparison to the ISO 2s, mainly in the form of airflow. It is safe to say that the airflow on the ISO 2s is still better than on the Ride 13s.

The ISO 2’s are also better when you’re running on sharper turns, but other than these two things, the Ride 13s are completely superior in all features to the ISO 2s.

Comfortability

The comfortability of the Ride 13s is one of its strongest features. The shoes themselves really hug your feet, because of the padding, so when you run with these shoes on, you won’t feel constricted.

You won’t have to worry about your feet feeling squeezed or too tight when you’re wearing these shoes. They are quite tight, but the design makes this tight fit extremely beneficial when you’re running.

The tightness actually helps with the stability of the shoe and keeping that stability while you are running. You will be able to run for longer thanks to this extra stability and comfortability.

In most cases, regardless of your foot length, width or shape, the Saucony Ride 13 shoes will adapt and fit them perfectly. The reason for this is the inclusion of FORMFIT technology, which can be found under the insole of the shoe.

If you have wider feet though, you may find these running shoes to be slightly more snug and they may require some extra breaking in, but once you do break them in, this won’t be an issue anymore.

Most shoes of any kind need to be broken in before they are comfortable to wear anyway, so if you do have wider feet, don’t let this put you off the shoe completely.

The upper padding might feel a bit warm from time to time, but that warmness won’t really be a problem for anything below 30 degrees.

If you are living in a climate that regularly exceeds 30 degrees though, you may want to reconsider investing in the Saucony Ride 13s.

Durable Outsole

The outsole of the Saucony Ride 13 is made from a rubber material that allows you to keep the shoes for longer, without having to worry about replacing them.

The wear and tear of these running shoes are incredibly good and reliable, thanks to that rubber material.

Most runners will land on their heel when they run, and the Saucony Ride 13 really compensates for this, making the outsole as durable as possible, so you have the protection you need when you’re running.

The durable outsole also provides extra comfort for your foot and counteracts the shock your feet feel when they make contact with more intense surfaces.

Combined Midsole

The midsole on the Ride 13s is made with a material called PWRRUN, which is a material that is made from both EVA foam and TPU.

This PWRRUN material was created by Saucony themselves and provides responsiveness and extra comfort for your feet while you run.

The combined midsole on the Ride 13s makes it effortless to run and allows you to retain more energy, meaning you can run for longer distances without getting tired quickly.

The extra foam on the Ride 13s does add a bit of extra weight to the shoes, but once you get used to them, you won’t find that to be a problem at all.

The extra weight actually provides better shock absorption and doesn’t compromise the speed you can gain when you wear these shoes.

Previous iterations of this shoe have used EVERRUN material, but the upgraded PWRRUN material is much softer and more comfortable and overall, it is one of the best enhancements on the Saucony Ride 13s.

Overall, the extra weight the combined midsole has is worth it for a better running experience.

Overall Durability

The overall durability of these shoes is fantastic and worth investing in. As they are great for both long and short distances, they will last you for quite a long time before you have to consider buying a new pair of running shoes.

The extra weight might put you off, but that weight is what makes them so durable, and in our opinion, that extra weight is totally worth it.

Both the combined midsole and the durable outsole are made with rubber materials that are designed to react well to consistent use, and will not wear down easily or quickly.

If you’re looking for a running shoe that has a fantastic durability level, then the Ride 13s are a great choice for you.

Who Benefits From The Saucony Ride 13?

The Saucony Ride 13s are a very diverse running shoe in terms of who can use them. Both short-distance runners and long-distance runners have praised these running shoes for being exactly what they need.

These running shoes are great for daily training as well because of their extra durability, so if you’re after a pair of running shoes that are incredibly consistent and reliable, these are the perfect shoes for you.

It doesn’t really matter what your running routines and habits are, the Saucony Ride 13s will be able to compensate for whatever they are.

Conclusion

The Saucony Ride 13 is a great pair of running shoes to have in your arsenal. They might be a bit on the heavier side, but once you get used to them, they are a great asset to have in making your runs more efficient.

They work well for both long and short distances and almost all workouts of any kind, and their durability and lack of wear really help to keep you running for longer without having to worry about needing to replace them.

The midsole on these shoes is extremely responsive and they do not compromise the shock absorption at all. Whether you need a pair of running shoes for slow or fast runs, the Saucony Ride 13s will work well for both.

Though they are not technically a “stability” running shoe, with enough time to get familiar with them, you will find that they do keep you stable enough to keep you running for as long as you need.

The Saucony Ride 13 running shoes are incredibly versatile and can fit on practically any shape of the foot. With a little familiarity, these shoes make great partners to accompany you on your runs!

FAQ

Not sure how virtual fitness works?

The easiest way to learn is to try Fitwins for yourself! The app is free to download, and you only pay for challenges you take part in, so why not take it for a test drive?

In the meantime, here are the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions about how Fitwins compares to other virtual walking challenges.

No! We believe that flexibility is the key to fitness success, so instead of forcing you to complete a set distance, we let you set your own goal.  This means you can be flexible in how you complete YOUR challenge: so if you are smashing your target, you can raise the bar and aim for more.

All entries into our challenge will receive a great medal, with a ribbon specific to the challenge type.

For our “iconic challenges”, your ribbon will have a unique design related to the challenge. For our regular monthly challenges, your ribbon will reflect the total distance you covered.

Running and walking ribbons are awarded based on 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175 and 200+ miles. Cycling ribbons are for distances of 50km, 100km, 200km, 500km, 1000km, 2000km and 3000km.

Absolutely! Not only that, but all the distance you’ve covered since the start of the month will count, as the Fitwins App syncs with Strava and logs all activities from the start of the month, regardless of what date you sign up for the challenge.

If you are hitting the streets with your app activated, verification is completed automatically by sycning with Strava. You can focus on completing your challenge, and we’ll take care of the rest.

If you’re using a treadmill, exercycle or other stationary equipment for some of your challenge, you’ll need to log this manually.
