Benefits of Running on Holiday

Running on holiday offers a multitude of benefits that go beyond simply maintaining your fitness level. Here are some of the key advantages of taking on a Fitwins Virtual Challenge while enjoying your vacation:

Maintain Your Fitness Level

One of the biggest advantages of running on holiday is the ability to maintain your current fitness level. By participating in a Fitwins Virtual Challenge, you can continue your training and stay on track with your fitness goals, even while away from home. This can be particularly beneficial if you have an upcoming race or event that you are preparing for.

Explore New Areas

Running outside while on holiday allows you to discover new areas and explore your surroundings in a unique way. Whether you’re running along the beach, through scenic trails, or in bustling city streets, you’ll get to experience the sights, sounds, and smells of your destination in a way that most tourists never do. It’s a chance to immerse yourself in the local culture and truly connect with your surroundings.

Flexibility and Freedom

The Fitwins Virtual Challenge offers flexibility and freedom in terms of when and where you run. You can choose to complete your challenge at any time that suits you, whether it’s early in the morning before the rest of your travel companions wake up or in the evening as the sun sets. This allows you to tailor your running schedule to fit seamlessly into your holiday plans.

Motivation and Accountability

Participating in a Fitwins Virtual Challenge while on holiday provides a sense of motivation and accountability. Knowing that you have a challenge to complete can help you stay disciplined and committed to your running routine, even when you’re surrounded by the temptations of relaxation and indulgence. It’s a great way to stay focused and ensure that you don’t veer too far off track during your vacation.

Health and Well-being

Running is not just beneficial for your physical health, but also for your mental and emotional well-being. Engaging in physical activity while on holiday can help reduce stress, boost your mood, and increase your overall sense of well-being. It’s a fantastic way to start your day off on a positive note and set the tone for a memorable and fulfilling vacation.

Tips for Taking on a Fitwins Virtual Challenge on Holiday

Now that you understand the benefits of running on holiday and participating in a Fitwins Virtual Challenge, let’s delve into some valuable tips to ensure that you make the most of this unique experience. Here’s what you should do and what you should avoid while taking on a Fitwins Virtual Challenge on holiday:

Plan Ahead

Before embarking on your holiday, take some time to plan your Fitwins Virtual Challenge. Research the area you’ll be visiting and identify suitable routes for your runs. Look for scenic trails, parks, or safe running paths that align with your challenge distance. This will ensure that you have a clear plan in place and can hit the ground running as soon as you arrive at your destination.

Pack Appropriate Gear

Make sure to pack all the necessary running gear for your Fitwins Virtual Challenge. This includes comfortable running shoes, moisture-wicking apparel, headbands or hats for sun protection, and any other accessories you typically use during your runs. Check the weather forecast for your destination and pack accordingly, whether it’s lightweight and breathable clothing for hot climates or layered clothing for cooler temperatures.

Stay Hydrated and Fuel Properly

Hydration is key, especially when running in unfamiliar environments. Carry a water bottle or hydration pack with you during your runs to ensure that you stay hydrated throughout. Additionally, plan your meals and snacks to fuel your runs effectively. Pack some energy gels, bars, or other portable snacks to keep your energy levels up during longer distances. Be mindful of any dietary restrictions or allergies and choose snacks that align with your specific needs.

Be Mindful of Safety

While running on holiday can be an exciting adventure, it’s essential to prioritise safety. Familiarise yourself with your surroundings and avoid running in unfamiliar or potentially unsafe areas, especially if you’re alone. Stick to well-lit and populated routes, and consider running during daylight hours to maximise visibility. It’s also a good idea to let someone know your running plans and approximate route, so they can check in on you if needed.

Embrace the Experience

Remember that running on holiday is not just about completing a challenge; it’s about embracing the experience and enjoying every moment. Take the time to soak in your surroundings, appreciate the beauty of your destination, and celebrate the fact that you’re able to combine your love for running with your passion for travel. Don’t be afraid to pause for a photo or to explore a detour that catches your eye. It’s these little moments that will make your Fitwins Virtual Challenge on holiday truly memorable.

Balance Rest and Exploration

While it’s important to stay active and maintain your fitness during your holiday, it’s equally essential to find a balance between rest and exploration. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you need a day or two off from running to relax and fully enjoy your vacation. Listen to your body, prioritise rest when needed, and remember that taking a break can actually be beneficial in the long run. Use your non-running days to explore your destination, try new activities, or simply unwind and recharge.

Connect with the Fitwins Community

The Fitwins Virtual Challenge has a vibrant and supportive community of runners from around the world. Take advantage of this community by connecting with other participants, sharing your experiences, and seeking inspiration and motivation. Join Fitwins social media groups, share your progress, and celebrate your achievements. Engaging with like-minded individuals will enhance your virtual challenge experience and make you feel connected to a larger running community, even while on holiday.

Reflect and Set New Goals

Once you’ve completed your Fitwins Virtual Challenge on holiday, take some time to reflect on your experience and celebrate your accomplishments. Consider what you learned from the challenge and how it has impacted your running journey. Use this opportunity to set new goals for yourself, whether it’s tackling longer distances, improving your pace, or exploring new destinations for future Fitwins Virtual Challenges. Let your holiday challenge be a stepping stone towards even greater achievements in your running endeavours.

Running on holiday doesn’t have to be a challenge; it can be an exhilarating and rewarding experience. FAQ

Not sure how virtual fitness works?

The easiest way to learn is to try Fitwins for yourself! The app is free to download, and you only pay for challenges you take part in, so why not take it for a test drive?

In the meantime, here are the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions about how Fitwins compares to other virtual walking challenges.

No! We believe that flexibility is the key to fitness success, so instead of forcing you to complete a set distance, we let you set your own goal.  This means you can be flexible in how you complete YOUR challenge: so if you are smashing your target, you can raise the bar and aim for more.

All entries into our challenge will receive a great medal, with a ribbon specific to the challenge type.

For our “iconic challenges”, your ribbon will have a unique design related to the challenge. For our regular monthly challenges, your ribbon will reflect the total distance you covered.

Running and walking ribbons are awarded based on 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175 and 200+ miles. Cycling ribbons are for distances of 50km, 100km, 200km, 500km, 1000km, 2000km and 3000km.

Absolutely! Not only that, but all the distance you’ve covered since the start of the month will count, as the Fitwins App syncs with Strava and logs all activities from the start of the month, regardless of what date you sign up for the challenge.

If you are hitting the streets with your app activated, verification is completed automatically by sycning with Strava. You can focus on completing your challenge, and we’ll take care of the rest.

If you’re using a treadmill, exercycle or other stationary equipment for some of your challenge, you’ll need to log this manually.
